Official: Xiaomi and Leica will usher in a new era of mobile photography
What the companies did, we will be able to evaluate in July on Xiaomi 12 Ultra
Huawei and Leica have been partners since 2014. The Chinese wanted to enlist the support of a company that would help improve cameras in smartphones, and the Germans wanted to apply their experience in developing mobile cameras. The collaboration became successful and Huawei devices were repeatedly recognized as the best camera phones on the market.
But after the star of the Chinese company faded under the onslaught of sanctions, the partnership was put to an end. But for a long time Leica was not left out. She became a partner of Sharp and managed to mark the release of her smartphone, created by the Japanese company. Another manufacturer that wanted to enlist the support of Leica was Xiaomi.
This morning, Xiaomi officially announced that Xiaomi and Leica have reached a global strategic cooperation in the field of imaging. Claimed to "combine a century of iconic images and innovative technologies to usher in a new era of mobile imaging." The result of the efforts of the two companies is promised to be shown in July.
“Xiaomi and Leica share each other's goals and philosophies and value each other's strengths and influence in the industry, and this collaboration will give a strong boost to Xiaomi's imaging strategy. In cooperation, from optical design to aesthetic orientation customization, innovative technology, product philosophy and image concept of both sides experienced an unprecedented deep collision and integration,” said Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun.
There is little doubt that the first device whose camera will be created with the participation of Leica will be Xiaomi 12 Ultra . It is known that the smartphone will receive a multi-module camera 50 MP (Sony IMX989, OIS) + 48 MP (ultra wide-angle OIS) + 48 MP (telephoto, 120x zoom) + ToF. They also promise the presence of a proprietary image processor Surge C2.
