29.12.2015 14090 2

In our group on the vkontakte network, subscribers often ask us to recommend any smartphone from the “low cost” segment, or the so-called entry-level smartphone. Not everyone in everyday life needs a device with a large display diagonal, the highest possible resolution and top-end hardware stuffing. Also, not everyone can afford to purchase a smartphone of a premium or even middle segment, or a situation arises when a smartphone is purchased by a child / teenager, in which case there is simply no need to purchase a large and expensive device. Be that as it may, smartphones of the “low cost” segment are in great demand, and therefore we decided to highlight such devices in one of the articles in the “Andro-TOP” section. And since the range of such smartphones on the market is quite wide, we decided to limit ourselves to the top ten models in 2015 and the price range from $50 to $80.

10Leagoo Alfa 5

Leagoo alpha 5

The Leagoo Alfa 5 smartphone was able to enter the top ten of our rating due to the significantly improved quality of this manufacturer's products in 2105. Like most representatives of the low cost segment, the Leagoo Alfa 5 smartphone received a 5-inch HD display, 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal memory. There is also a slot for memory cards on board. The Spreadtrum SC7731G processor, which has 4 Cortex-A7 cores, is responsible for the operation of this device. The clock frequency of the cores of this processor is 1.2 GHz, and the Mali-400 MP2 video chip is responsible for the graphics in this system. This chip is an analogue of the MT6580 processor from MediaTek, but at the same time it is significantly inferior to it in terms of performance, which, together with a meager set of built-in sensors, prevented the Leagoo Alfa 5 smartphone from taking a higher place in our rating.

The battery capacity of the Leagoo Alfa 5 smartphone was 2200 mAh with a body thickness of almost 9 mm, and the built-in cameras received a resolution of 5 megapixels and 2 megapixels (8 megapixels and 5 megapixels with interpolation). The device runs on the Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system with a proprietary Leagoo OS1.1 shell, and this model is available in black, white and gold body colors. The cost of Leagoo Alfa 5 at the time of this writing was about $56.

9. Oukitel U7 Pro

Oukitel U7 Pro

The Oukitel U7 Pro smartphone is an improved version of the model that appeared in the first half of this year. The manufacturer equipped the novelty with a 5.5-inch display with a resolution increased to 720p, a new processor (MT6580 instead of MT6582), which made it possible to install the Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system in this smartphone and a more capacious battery (2500 mAh versus 2200 mAh). The dimensions of the case of the U7 Pro model have changed compared to its predecessor, and the glass on the front panel has received fashionable this season rounded edges using 2.5D technology.

The amount of RAM and internal memory in the novelty remained the same - 1 GB and 8 GB, respectively. The slot for memory cards on board this smartphone is also present. But the built-in cameras in the Oukitel U7 Pro have also improved compared to the original model. They received a resolution of 8 megapixels (13 megapixels with interpolation) and 2 megapixels, but this practically did not affect the cost of the device, since it remained in the range of $65-70.

8. Cubot P11

Cubot P11

Smartphone Cubot P11 soared to the 8th line of our rating thanks to an interesting case design and an original 3D pattern on its back panel. But to an even greater extent, this was facilitated by the presence of high-quality cameras with a resolution of 13 megapixels and 5 megapixels, as well as support for HotKnot and OTG functions, which is quite rare in a smartphone of this price segment. Other characteristics of the Cubot P11 smartphone are standard for devices in this segment, and this is a 5-inch HD display, a MT6580 quad-core processor with a clock speed of 1.3 GHz, 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of internal memory, a memory card slot and a battery with a capacity of 2200 mAh This device could rise even higher in our rating if it were not for the rather weak battery capacity and the high price tag compared to analogues, which amounted to at least $76.

7. Doogee Nova Y100X

Doogee Nova Y100X

The Doogee Nova Y100X smartphone appeared in the middle of the outgoing year and we remember it thanks to its ergonomic design and the original location of the volume button. Among other features of this device, it is worth noting the presence of a protective glass Gorilla Glass 3 with rounded 2.5D edges, an 8 MP rear camera from Sony, as well as a 5 MP front camera with a separate LED flash.

The Doogee Nova Y100X smartphone received a 5-inch HD display, a 4-core MT6582 processor with a clock frequency of 1.3 GHz, 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of internal memory, a memory card slot and a 2200 mAh battery. The device is running the Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system, and its market value has now dropped to $72.

6.VKworld VK700X

VKworld VK700X

Smartphone VKworld VK700X conquered us first of all with its appearance. This device received a stylish case with a metal frame, a Gorilla Glass 3 front panel with rounded edges and even a backlight for three touch buttons, which not every device in this segment can boast of.

The display diagonal of the VKworld VK700X smartphone was 5.0 inches, and the resolution was 720p. The device is powered by a 4-core MT6580A processor with a clock frequency of 1.5 GHz, and the amount of RAM was 1 GB and 8 GB, respectively. The device also received a rear camera with a sensor from OmniVision with a resolution of 5 megapixels (8 megapixels with interpolation) and a front camera with a resolution of 2 megapixels (5 megapixels with interpolation), and its battery capacity was 2200 mAh. Works VKworld VK700X running Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system, and the cost of this smartphone is now about $59.

5. Doogee X6 and Homtom HT7

Doogee X6

Homtom HT7

Despite the fact that the appearance of the Doogee X6 and Homtom HT7 smartphones has absolutely no common features, it is the design of each of these devices that distinguishes these two "cousins" from their competitors. Ergonomic shapes and the original design of the side control buttons of the first and a stylish body with the same back panel design as the LG V10 of the second make these smartphones one of the most attractive in their segment.

In addition to an interesting design, Doogee X6 and Homtom HT7 smartphones also have almost identical hardware stuffing. Both of them received 5.5-inch displays with HD resolution, 4-core MT6580 processors, 1 GB of RAM each, 8 GB of internal memory, 5 MP and 2 MP cameras (8 MP and 5 MP with interpolation), as well as batteries with a capacity of 3000 mAh It is worth noting that the clock frequency of the processor cores in Homtom HT7 is reduced to 1.0 GHz, while in Doogee X6 this chip operates at the standard 1.3 GHz. But for the device of the initial segment, this does not change much, since it is impossible to play serious games on such smartphones, and for ordinary tasks, such as surfing the Internet, communicating on social networks, listening to music and making calls, this is quite enough.

Both new items are running the Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system with proprietary shells, and their cost is about $67 for the Doogee X6 and about $55 for the Homtom HT7 (excluding promotions and discounts).

4.VKworld VK700 Pro

VKworld VK700 Pro

The VKworld VK700 Pro smartphone from its younger brother, which took the 6th line in our rating, has a large screen size, which was 5.5 inches, like the original VK700 model. At the same time, the device also received a metal frame of the case and a protective glass Gorilla Glass 3 with rounded edges. The advantages of VKworld VK700 Pro also include the presence of a built-in rear camera from Sony with a resolution of 13 megapixels and a front camera with a resolution of 5 megapixels, as well as a battery with a capacity of 3200 mAh.

The resolution of the VKworld VK700 Pro display was 720p, just like the smartphones that took the previous line in our rating. But the 4-core MT6582 processor with a clock frequency of 1.3 GHz is responsible for the operation of the device. Therefore, the VK700 Pro model runs on the Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system. The amount of RAM and internal memory in the smartphone amounted to 1 GB and 8 GB, respectively, and with the help of a slot for memory cards, the internal storage can be increased by another 64 GB. The device also supports OTG function and various smart functions, and its cost at the time of this writing was about $70.

3. Bluboo Xfire

Bluboo Xfire

The top three in our ranking are smartphones that have received support for 4G LTE networks thanks to the MT6735 64-bit quad-core processor installed in them. And the Bluboo Xfire smartphone opens this trio.

We introduced you to the Bluboo Xfire smartphone in our special video review . We remember this device with a capacious 2750 mAh battery, as well as the presence of on-screen (software) control buttons and a modest 5-inch display resolution by today's standards, which was 540x960 pixels (qHD). A stripped-down version of the MT6735 chip is responsible for the operation of the Bluboo Xfire smartphone, the cores of which operate at a frequency of 1.0 GHz, and the amount of RAM and internal memory on board the device was 1 GB and 8 GB, respectively. The device also received a Micro-SD memory card slot and built-in cameras with a resolution of 8 megapixels and 5 megapixels. Bluboo Xfire runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system, and its cost is about $70.

2. Blackview BV2000

Blackview BV2000

The Blackview BV2000 smartphone was conceived to be the most affordable 4G smartphone, and the manufacturer has fully succeeded in this. The device received a 4-core MT6735M processor with a clock frequency of 1.0 GHz, a 5-inch display with a resolution of 720p, 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of internal memory and a camera of 5 megapixels and 2 megapixels. But the highlight of this model was the design of its case, which bears a certain resemblance to the Meizu M2 Mini smartphone. The Blackview BV2000 case turned out to be just as ergonomic, has rounded edges and even a Home button on the front panel that is similar in design. It is impossible not to mention a wide range of color options for the case of this model, represented by light green, blue, pink, white and gray colors.

The battery capacity of the Blackview BV2000 smartphone was 2400 mAh, and this figure corresponds to the real one, which was confirmed by the corresponding measurement during our testing of this device. The device is running the Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system with a pre-installed proprietary shell from the manufacturer. As Blackview promised, the BV2000 model supports 4G LTE networks, and in 5 bands used in the post-Soviet space (800/900/1800/2100/2600MHz) at once. The manufacturer did not deceive with the price tag either, since for the BV2000 model it was about $60, which really makes it the most affordable 4G smartphone.

All of the above could well bring the Blackview BV2000 smartphone to the first place in our rating, if there were no more worthy candidate for this role on the market. So, the Doogee X5 Pro became the leader of our rating of low cost smartphones under $80.

1. Doogee X5 Pro

Doogee X5 Pro

The Doogee X5 Pro smartphone has become an improved version of the X5 model, which received a 64-bit MT6735M quad-core processor with a clock speed of 1.0 GHz and doubled the amount of RAM and internal memory compared to the original model (2 GB and 16 GB, respectively). Both of these models were reviewed by us in a special video review , and each of them deserved a place in our Top 10. However, the younger model was only a little short of breaking into the coveted top ten at the end of the year, while the older one took the lead, smashing almost all its competitors by head.

The Doogee X5 Pro smartphone received the same nondescript angular body as its younger version, as well as a 5-inch 720p display and Gorilla Glass protective glass. The built-in cameras also remained practically unchanged, and their resolution was 5 megapixels and 2 megapixels (8 megapixels and 5 megapixels with interpolation, respectively). The battery capacity of 2400 mAh remained the same, and support for the OTG function appeared among the nice additions.

Our absolute leader, Doogee X5 Pro, runs on the Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system with a pre-installed proprietary shell from the manufacturer, and the cost of the device was close to the $80 limit.

Of course, our rating was compiled solely on the basis of our own opinion and experience with the devices listed in this article. And we do not rule out that some models deserve higher positions in our Top 10, and some, on the contrary, lower ones. Also, we may have accidentally or intentionally left some smartphones behind the scenes. For example, this top ten could include smartphones Xiaomi Redmi 2 (basic version) and Lenovo K3, the cost of which in the jd.com online store would also meet the $80 limit when using special discount coupons. However, we used the actual cost of smartphones currently on the market when compiling our ranking, as we believe this is the most fair approach.

Nevertheless, we hope that this article will help many of you in choosing the desired smartphone. We are waiting for your comments and see you in the new article of our Andro-TOP column!
